Mentone, Alabama

Organizer: Kaye Kiker

Mentone, Alabama, September 29- 6pm at Kamama Gallery. The gallery can seat 60 and there is one poet to perform. This event will initiate other poetry performances by other poets in the area.”

The featured poet is Douglas Kiker. He is the son of a sharecropper who eked out a living in the red clay of southeast Alabama. Douglas always loved to read and began memorizing epic poetry and writing stories about the poor community he lived in. He is a storyteller, relating tales passed down to him by his grandfather. One thing Doug hopes to accomplish is to promote poetry and encourage others to take the time to learn their favorite poems by heart.
