Here are a few pics from Owen Sound’s contribution, called “Sounds Like Hope.” Thank you Davide Sereda for getting this going here! I had a great time, as did all of us. The warm-ups and introductions by the Sydenham River were a great start, the Tone Yoga studio had a welcoming atmosphere, and the rainbow over town afterwards was just the optimistic ending we needed!

    This was our poster:

This was posted by my good friend Jodi Birch VanDyk, who attended our delightful happening here in Owen Sound. Very descriptive of the day and the mood:

    Poets by a river’s edge.
    Roses floating down stream.
    Fish leaping with life.
    A passing thunderstorm.
Beautiful words sheltered by stained glass walls.
Many voices raised as meadowlarks in song.
    A rainbow… and then another
    Laughter amongst friends.
My day was like a poem.

Excited to share that Richard-Yves Sitowski will be reading at sounds like hope. Richard is an Owen Sound based poet, activist and blogger who is involved in the Mad movement. He has published fiction, verse and reviews, and is a regular and visible (and loud!) Spoken Word performer in and about the city. He’s working on his first collection of poems, an extended cycle on the history of Owen Sound called brownfields. The full scoop is on his arts site: http://richardsitoski.wordpress.com/about/ Check it out!

there are lots of writers of all kinds here in the Owen Sound area, and the first poet to answer our call for poets/singers/performers is Liz Zetlin. Liz was Owen Sound’s first poet laureate, and she’s known as a “nature poet with a twist”. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with her several times, and she’s always inspiring. check out the other events on this website, and if you’d like to spread the word on facebook we have a page there too: http://www.facebook.com/events/422996664425110/
    let’s see what unfolds
